National award success for Polo on the Beach

A Cornish beach polo event has enjoyed success at the prestigious national Travel Marketing Awards.

Veuve Clicquot Polo on the Beach, hosted and run by Watergate Bay Hotel on the north Cornwall coast, won silver in the ‘Experiential Marketing’ category.

Organised by the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Travel Industry Group (CIMTIG), the awards scheme recognises leading agencies and companies at the forefront of the travel sector.

Judi Blakeburn, Operations Director for Watergate Bay Hotel said: “The Travel Marketing Awards attracted some of the biggest names in the industry, from Virgin Atlantic to M&C Saatchi, and to be recognised alongside brands of this calibre is a real accolade.

“Our in-house marketing and events teams worked with Barefoot Media to deliver a highly effective cross-media campaign, reaching an audience of over 50 million people and saw over 8,000 spectators come to Watergate Bay for the event.”

Judged by some of the leading professionals in the travel, creative and marketing industries, the prestigious awards ceremony was held at London’s Grosvenor House hotel on Thursday 20 March 2014.

Watergate Bay Hotel partnered with a group of Cornish businesses to deliver the marketing campaign, including digital marketing and PR agency Barefoot Media, photographer Kirstin Prisk, video production company Pixel Rain, and polo expert Andy Burgess from South West Polo.

Jim Michell, Managing Partner at Barefoot Media added: “Watergate Bay is a unique destination and Veuve Clicquot Polo on the Beach really encapsulates what makes this part of Cornwall so special. We love working on the event and it is great to see the marketing campaign is on a par with the best in the business.”

Last autumn Watergate Bay Hotel and Barefoot Media scooped two gold awards at the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) South West England Pride Awards for their integrated marketing campaign for the event.

The 2014 edition of Veuve Clicquot Polo on the Beach will take place on the weekend of Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 July.
